Gregor Mendel discovered the laws of heredity by breeding pea plants with specific characteristics.  We can repeat a version of his experiments in our classroom using a special type of fast growing plant.

Genes located on Chromosome 23 (the sex chromosomes) act differently than genes on other chromosomes.  We'll explore these in this section.

Sex-linked characteristics are passed to offspring through Chromosome #23 in humans - the sex chromosomes. The male and female versions of these chromosomes contain different alleles, changing the way the traits are passed to offspring.
