Marking Period 1:
Integumentary System
  • Skin Activities
  • Nerve sensation
Skeletal System
  • Owl Pellet Dissection
Ends: November 17, 2015

In order to start learning about Anatomy & Physiology, we need to start by having a common language of terms to speak with each other.  We'll also need to know directionality when dealig with body terms.  We'll also need to know one other part of the body - the cavities that contain the organs.  Only than can we start to understand the organ systems that make up an organism.

Then we can look at the Integumentary System (skin) and skeletal system.

We can take a look at the muscular system and nervous system next.  These are body systems that use the skeletal system as a framework to hang from (the skeletal system is a support system for the muscular system, after all).  The nervous system is our way of interacting with our environment - in fact, it can be said that we don't expereince the world directy, but rather through the filter of our nervous system.

Here is where it all comes together.  We'll do our final dissections this marking period - some complex mammals.  We'll be able to see how all of teh various systems we've spent the past months learning about are all interconnected, and we will see the connections.  The physiology becomes very clear this marking period, as we can determine how the parts not only ft together, but how they work together.  Exciting times!

The circulartory system is a complex body system that interacts with all the other systems in a very direct way.  The ciculatory system provides oxygen and food to all of the cells of our bodies - and it also removes carbon Dioxide and other waste materials from our cells.  The circulatory system works closely with the respiratory system to provide our body with the oxygen necessary to burn the calories in our food, and to remove the water vapor and carbon dioxide waste from our bodies.
